What's happening at the Old Whitgiftian Rugby Club, South Croydon.

Our season is still not quite over yet...   For the supporters that ventured to the Isle of Wight on Saturday it was like a mini Tour, for the players it was quite different. "Next stop promotion" was one of the comments on the train as we approached our destination.   Unfortunately, it was not to be - Read the match report here.   Having beaten Old Emanuel 39-0 in the Surrey Shield Semi Final Read the match report here we have obviously reached the Surrey Shield Final, which will be this SUNDAY 3rd May at Imber Court against Old Walcountians. I think the squad would really appreciate a big crowd on the touchline - so please make an effort to come and support the boys for the Surrey Shield Final.

If you are new to the club, we welcome you with open arms as you are joining a club that has started the season with momentum that is carrying us forward to hopefully promotion from Surrey 1.

 

Credit crunch? What about taking the credit for a crunching tackle instead!!

 

As a club we are progressing nicely this season after some hard work last season but we must remain realistic in our campaign for promotion. By realistic, I mean we need to make every effort to come to training (where we've had some very positive numbers), we need to make every effort to get a third XV out regularly, so that our growing membership are getting proper game time on the rugby pitch and we need to encourage our teams to success with all the support we can muster on the touchlines. Don't worry about the weather - we've got tea, coffee, and hot food for the supporters too!

Training

Training is on Tuesday evenings at 19:30 and is key to our preparation for this coming season. We had a great season last year and we cannot be complacent this year. The preparation needs to be done for it to be successful and enjoyable.

 

Junior Rugby (mini rugby, midi rugby and junior rugby), Croydon

What a fantastic turnout with over 100 boys and girls registering for Junior rugby at the Old Whitgiftian Rugby Club, South Croydon. Thanks to Mark Endersby for organising everything and his team of coaches for all the age groups. We delivered Junior Rugby coaching to these age groups - Under 5, Under 6, Under 7, Under 8, Under 9, Under 10, Under 11, Under 12, Under 13 and Under 14. Our registration day was followed by a barbeque provided by Dave Tan butchers and was a great success. If you wish to bring your child along on a Sunday morning from 10:00 until 12:00, you are more than welcome. We also provide tea, coffee and bacon rolls etc. for the supporting parents!!

Rugby Subscriptions

We operate a NO PAY, NO PLAY policy. Make sure you have paid your Membership Subscriptions and also your Match Fees. Match fees partly cover the costs of teas for the home side and visitors plus the laundry of the shirts. Annual subscriptions contribute towards the maintenance of the grounds and the clubhouse plus your OWA membership. Should you have any questions regarding your subscription please speak to your team captain.
